The district reported a 21‑bus fleet, of which staff said 11 buses are now electric vehicles (EVs) in operation on local routes. Transportation staff said the expanded EV fleet has driven a trend toward lower fuel expenses — an estimated roughly 25% reduction compared with the prior year — and noted an increase in district vans from six to eight after acquiring lightly used vans through an ICOE transfer program.
Business manager Vanessa Gonzalez and staff said the district is estimating roughly $1.3 million in transportation expenditures that may be eligible for a 60% state reimbursement; the figure was presented as an estimate based on last year’s expenses. Staff described maintenance training, parts‑replacement arrangements and continued use of regular (non‑EV) vehicles where needed.
Trustees asked whether mechanics and staff are trained to service EV buses and about driver shortages; presenters said mechanics have been trained and the district has contracts for specialized repairs, and that driver supply was adequate at the moment though it remains a countywide challenge.
The board approved the plan by voice vote. Staff said the plan is required for eligibility to receive state reimbursement funding and will be used to support ongoing fleet renewal and service planning.
