School district outlines five LCAP-aligned goals to boost achievement and equity

The second goal focuses on equitable practices to accelerate academic and language achievement for specified student groups. The presenter identified the targeted groups as “English Learners, socioeconomically disadvantaged students, foster youth, homeless youth and students of color,” and said the district will provide coaching and English-language-development support and ensure classroom materials and curriculum are culturally and linguistically inclusive.
On special education, the presenter described a third goal to provide an inclusive learning environment for students with disabilities that supports their social, emotional and academic development. The district plans to recruit and retain special-education, bilingual and behavioral-support staff and to provide supplemental curriculum and training.
A fourth goal aims to actively engage families and community members in supporting grade-level instruction and in giving input on program decisions. The presenter noted the district has community liaisons who support families and school-linked services.
The fifth goal addresses school environments: safe physical school sites, a sense of belonging and social-emotional wellness, the presenter said, listing those elements as priorities when developing programs and investments.
District staff, the presenter said, will align resources to the goals: “the Educational Service Division and the Business Services Division work together to determine the resources to implement the goals,” and, because resources are limited, the district will seek input from families and the broader district community to help prioritize work and investments.
