The council unanimously approved a $77,800.14 bid from CK Construction to repair and stabilize two long-standing sinkholes and related drainage at 1208 and 1212 South Rome Street, with staff saying deeds are transferred and the work aims for long-term stabilization. Scott Mason said of the timeline: “hopefully in two weeks they'll have it completed and wrapped. That blight shall be gone.” The council voted to move forward and asked staff to return the formal contract at the February meeting.
Councilors also adopted a city employee travel policy intended to clarify reimbursement procedures and timeliness for submitting receipts. During the brief discussion, council members urged employees to read and follow the policy so reimbursements are processed promptly.
On property matters, the council approved transferring three parcels (30 Morton Road, 408 Morton Road and 307 Vernal Road) to the Harriman Industrial Board after confirming a resident affected by the transfer was comfortable with the change.
Finally, the council authorized the city manager and city attorney to enter negotiations with Keystone Civil Engineer, a local engineering firm, to establish contractual engineering services; staff said a draft contract will be returned for formal approval, possibly including a retainer or hourly structure for the remainder of the year.
