Commission approves opioid grants, multiple budget amendments and a $20,000 school contribution

Polk County commissioners voted to approve a package of opioid-related grants and several budget adjustments at their meeting.

On a motion from the opioid board’s recommendation, the commission approved funding for qualifying applicants from the county’s opioid funds, including the Transitional Accountability Program ($20,000), the Boys & Girls Club ($20,000), Crescendo ($16,727), Volunteer Behavioral Health ($40,000) and CASA ($29,796.96). Commissioners moved and approved the allocation on the record.

Separately, the commission approved budget amendments 25–29 that reallocate reserve and earmark funds into lines for medical/dental expenses, library travel and supplies, equipment, public-health contributions and a transfer to the schools. The commission also approved budget amendment number two, moving $60,000 from a capital reserve into a line for a Ford patrol vehicle as capital outlay.

Commissioners voted to donate $20,000 to the school system to support construction of a handicap-accessible restroom at Chillh High Middle School’s football field. The donation was moved, seconded and carried; several commissioners noted the need for longer-range planning for school repairs and agreed to coordinate with the school system on larger capital-planning questions.

Clerks recorded roll-call votes for these motions during the meeting. Staff and commissioners said the amendments and opioid awards will be reflected in the county budget records and that grant agreements will include the usual reporting requirements.
