Anderson council approves preliminary resolution for JBS redevelopment project expected to bring 56 jobs

The Anderson Common Council unanimously approved Resolution 126 on a preliminary declaratory basis, setting a public hearing for a downtown redevelopment proposed by JLBS Property LLC (presented as JBS Construction/JBS Property).
Mr. Winkler introduced the resolution and described the project as redevelopment of multiple downtown parcels. John Langi Bartles, who identified himself as president of JBS Construction and JBS Property, told the council the company has completed nearby projects, that rented downtown apartments are full, and that the planned move would create about 56 jobs with an average wage “a little over $32 an hour” and an annual payroll “just over $3.7 million.” Bartles said the project recently received a state design release and will move next to the building commissioner’s review.
Council members asked about truck traffic and rail crossings; Bartles said the company has on-site laydown areas and turnarounds to keep trucks off city streets. The measure passed by unanimous roll call (Turner, Harless, Wagner, Landers, Newman, council president) and the public hearing was scheduled for the council’s next regular meeting.
Bartles also described plans to use a downtown building for company headquarters and to coordinate with Anderson University on internships and job placement for students.
The council’s approval sets the public-hearing process in motion; any tax-incentive or abatement decisions would follow the public hearing and separate council action.
