PRTC: Phase one of Lee County fiber ‘on pace’; company to live-stream May 19 election results

Brian Murray, a representative of PRTC, told the Lee County Fiscal Court that phase one of the county’s major fiber build is “about halfway through the first phase at 78 miles” and that crews have finished anchors and are now lashing fiber. He said the project is on pace for completion in April–May and that, when both phases finish, “94% of Lee County’s homes and businesses will have access to PRTC’s high-speed fiber.”
Murray said environmental approvals that delayed earlier work are now complete and that phase two — about 125 miles — could begin before phase one is finished. He invited county leaders to provide addresses of specific service requests and said PRTC’s engineering staff will review them.
On elections, Murray said PRTC will provide a live-streamed feed of instant precinct results for five counties (Jackson, Lee, Alsley, Clay and Laurel) from a single location on Tuesday, May 19. “As soon as the precinct results come in… we’re going to live stream that instantaneously,” he said, adding that staff will verify numbers through multiple checks to reduce misinformation.
The update gave county leaders a timeline for expanded broadband access and a new communications channel for election-night results. The court did not take formal action on the project during these segments; Murray encouraged elected officials and staff to forward specific addresses for prioritization.
