WT Elementary students present leadership and kindness projects to board

Students from WT Elementary presented the school’s student leadership and kindness programs to the School Board, describing projects, responsibilities and growth in participation.
WT’s principal introduced teacher leaders Ms. Haslip and Ms. Herman and assistant principal Mrs. Myers, and explained the program had grown from seven student applicants last year to 30 this year. Student presenters (third through fifth grade) explained classroom job roles, PBIS points, a kindness club that collected more than 100 toys and 105 food items last year, and a December breakfast food drive with incentives for the grade that donated most.
Students gave concrete examples: greeting visitors, running assemblies, distributing PBIS points, creating posters for the PTO Facebook page and writing Valentine’s Day cards for staff. Several students said the leadership program teaches them that "change starts with me," and they described how leadership tasks are applied in both classroom and schoolwide events.
Board members praised the students and recommended the community attend the upcoming State of the School Showcase.
