Residents press La Verne council on a hazardous intersection and train horn noise during public comment

Several residents used the public-comment period at the Feb. 3 La Verne City Council meeting to press local officials on traffic safety and train horn noise.
A resident who identified the intersection of Wheeler Avenue and Via Royo described repeated close calls when attempting left turns and urged the city to consider traffic-control measures such as a signal. The commenter also raised concerns about fast-moving electric bicycles riding on sidewalks near Foothill and recommended stronger enforcement or licensing.
Another resident, speaking about train horns, said this was their third appearance before the council on the issue and said no progress had been made: "My new understanding is nothing has been done ... it is something that is allowed according to the trains system that you can have a quiet zone if you have the arms that come down the lights that flash and the ringing Bells which we have ... so why can't we get somebody to run with this project before it's too late," the speaker said.
Council members requested contact information from the commenter and acknowledged the long-standing nature of the complaints; staff and members agreed to follow up. The meeting also included other community announcements and reminders of upcoming events.
