Coppell commission tables Saint Constantine School enrollment increase to May 21

The Coppell Planning and Zoning Commission opened a public hearing on April 16 on a request to revise a special use permit for Saint Constantine School that would raise the permitted enrollment from 100 to 130 students at the Church of the Apostles, 322 South MacArthur Boulevard, but the commission voted to table the hearing to the May 21 meeting.

Commissioner Haas moved to table the item and Vice Chair Cindy Blankenship seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote in which Commissioner Dodmeyer, Commissioner Sameer Patel, Vice Chair Blankenship, Chairman Haas, Commissioner Mauer and Commissioner Bishop all voted "I."

Edmond Hostetter, speaking for the commission, read the item into the record and said the school "believe[s] they have 69 students currently," noting the applicant had asked for more time to resolve outstanding issues. The permit revision (S-1113R3-SF-7) was filed at the request of Catherine Clayton on behalf of Saint Constantine School and involves property owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas.

Commissioners said staff will present a full staff report and the applicant will make a presentation at the May 21 meeting. The commission did not deliberate on the merits of the enrollment increase at the April 16 session.

The commission also recorded that the applicant submitted a letter requesting the continuance and that staff needs time to "button up some issues" before the item returns for consideration. The hearing was opened and tabled to ensure the commission will hear the applicant and staff presentations at the May 21 meeting.

Next steps: Saint Constantine School’s revised special use permit will be taken up at the Coppell Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on May 21, when staff presentations, the applicant presentation and deliberation will occur.
