Jim Siggson, introduced as the executive director of Meals on Wheels of Ocean County, thanked the council and described the program’s operations and capacity constraints. “Our program started February 1st of 1973,” Siggson said. He said the organization has “46 employees who work tirelessly day in and day out” and operates 18 delivery routes covering “530 plus miles of Ocean County” each day. He told the council the program currently has a waiting list of about 30 people who cannot yet be served.
The proclamation and remarks emphasized the role of local volunteers and municipal support in sustaining meal delivery and wellness checks for homebound seniors. The mayor and council encouraged residents and neighboring municipalities to support the program through funding, volunteering or donations.
The council then moved on to other agenda items; the proclamation did not require or record a formal vote in the transcript. The meeting later adjourned.
