Mayor Pro Tem and staff presented the mayoral report on March 24, which included a public presentation about the Coastal Mississippi Mardi Gras Museum and a personnel announcement.
Abreza (identified in the ceremony as Abreza Thomas) told council members the museum experienced one of its highest visitation numbers around Mardi Gras; she said the Monday before Mardi Gras drew more than 60 visitors and tours had increased. "We had... higher number of tours and we've continued to see visitation stay pretty steady even in the off-season," Thomas said, adding the museum plans quarterly events and will soon reveal new branding and a logo.
The council presented Thomas with a certificate of appreciation and Rick Weaver (CAO) read the citation on behalf of the mayor. Councilors applauded and noted her contributions to the museum and coastal tourism. The mayor and staff announced Thomas will leave the museum near the end of April to accept a position with American Cruise Lines.
Councilors and staff encouraged continued support for the museum, including promotion in the Best of Coastal Mississippi contest referenced by staff. No formal action was required; the item was presented as part of the mayor's report.
Next step: museum leadership will manage the transition; council acknowledged its appreciation and encouraged continued museum promotion and sponsorship support.
