Wayne County CCAB to seek member availability for move to Criminal Justice Center; meeting lacked quorum

Chair Varga said staff had evaluated space at the Criminal Justice Center (CJC) and proposed moving regular CCAB meetings there beginning in May and shifting the start time from 3 p.m. to 2 p.m.; the chair said an email will be circulated to members to check availability before any change is finalized.
"It allows for a lot of people it's more convenient. And it will I believe enhance us having quorums in the future," said Paul Brunell when asked to explain advantages of meeting at the CJC, adding that the site would allow for tours and other on‑site activities relevant to board decisions.
The board discussed membership and staffing changes: Deputy Chief Dunlap resigned and Commander Derek Lynch was introduced as the anticipated replacement (administrative processing pending). The chair said once two open slots are filled the CCAB will have only one remaining vacancy for workforce development and is vetting two candidates.
Thomas reviewed outreach plans: a referral meeting with MDOC and defense and prosecution stakeholders was held on April 3 and a stakeholders open house is scheduled for April 24 at Third New Hope Baptist Church (5439 West Warren) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thomas invited board members to attend future stakeholder and CJC meetings (next multi‑stakeholder referral meeting planned for May 21) to improve referral workflows and program awareness.
The public comment period produced no speakers (no Zoom hands, no emails), and the board moved to adjourn after roll call for adjournment.
