Smithfield approves overnight varsity lacrosse trip to Bangor, Maine

The Smithfield School Committee voted to approve an overnight trip for the Smithfield High School boys varsity lacrosse team to Bangor High School in Bangor, Maine.

Coach David Rodri, who identified himself to the committee, described the trip as a team-building opportunity that grew from an informal visit last year. “It doesn’t cost the school anything. We’ve raised all the money for it last year to pay for the trip and that’s our intention as well this year,” Rodri said, explaining the program will be funded through team fundraising rather than district operating funds.

The committee moved and seconded the motion to approve the trip and approved it by voice vote. Committee members asked for clarifying comments, none opposed, and the coach encouraged the community to attend the team’s upcoming home game.

The trip was presented as educational and morale-building: Rodri emphasized the chance for players to bond, partner up and attend shared team events. He referenced returning alumni who still recall the experience positively.

Because the committee approved the trip by voice vote, no roll-call tally was recorded in the meeting record. The approval means the team may proceed with logistics and fundraising as described to the committee.

The committee did not specify travel dates or a finalized itinerary during the meeting; those operational details are expected to be handled by the coach and athletic department staff in coordination with district policy.
