Commission hears update: dock opening delayed and some moorings may be shifted

The Harbor Management Commission received updates March 25 that the city's dock contractor is behind schedule and that several construction tasks and quality-control issues have delayed the dock opening until the week of June 22.
The harbor master reported contact from the contractor (Terry Marine) indicating a barge will be needed for dock work and that some moorings may have to be moved roughly 20 feet to allow safe barge positioning. The harbor master said staff will identify affected mooring holders and notify them of temporary adjustments.
Commissioners said the contractor reported that center floats failed QC inspections and that several items (parking-lot work, pilings removal, new pier work) remain incomplete. The commission discussed prorated charges for the delayed opening and confirmed float deliveries are arriving in phases, with additional float sections expected in the coming weeks.
The commission also discussed a loose mooring between Peach Island and Cove Marina that staff plans to retrieve on Friday and confirmed continued coordination among the harbor master, mooring inspectors and public-works or parks staff as the dock project proceeds.
