GREELEY, Colo. — The Greeley‑Evans School District 6 board on Monday recognized dozens of students who qualified for state competitions in sports, music and career programs and publicly thanked a team of Miker Elementary staff for a rapid emergency response that school leaders say saved a student’s life.
At the start of the meeting Superintendent Dr. Pilch introduced district athletics director Sean Scribbik and multiple school leaders who presented lists of state qualifiers from Greeley West, Greeley Central and Northridge across music, choir, wrestling, culinary arts, swimming and forensics.
The board also honored a team from Miker Elementary after an incident in January in which classroom staff immediately summoned the health clerk, Morgan Damian, and the school nurse, Ashley Kendrick. According to Health Services Coordinator Jen Clark and Dr. Pilch, staff initiated CPR for about two minutes, had an automated external defibrillator ready and cleared the room so emergency medical services could safely take over; by the time EMS arrived the student was conscious and was transported for further care.
“Their preparedness and teamwork made a life‑saving difference,” Dr. Pilch said, thanking the staff for “their courage, professionalism and readiness to act when every second mattered.”
Board members and the superintendent also used the meeting to celebrate individual student honors. The board announced Abigail Tovar of Greeley Central as the 2026 recipient of the Wilbert R. Weedman scholarship, a named award administered through the Weld Community Foundation with a published award amount of $80,000. Dr. Pilch said the selection committee praised Tovar’s combination of academic achievement, leadership and community projects such as a paper‑recycling program at her school; Tovar thanked the board and the foundation during a brief address.
Superintendent Pilch said the recognitions underscore the district’s emphasis on both student achievement and staff readiness. The board closed the segment by inviting photo recognition and congratulations to the students and staff honored.
The board moved on to other business and later adjourned without further action on the recognitions.
