Public works staff told the council that startup testing for the Well 5 rebuild revealed a missing pump-to-waste valve and an unintended discharge that affected a neighbor. Staff requested approval of Change Order No. 4 to perform pipe reconfiguration and move the injection point, adding $11,652.72 to the contract and increasing the K&G contract to an amount not to exceed approximately $2.6 million.
Jonathan explained that the change order corrects issues observed during initial startup and that town crews will assist with trenching to reduce costs. The contractor will perform a 10-day trial run under contractor oversight; if successful, the town will take ownership of the well and place it into operation.
Council approved the change order without additional conditions.
Why it matters: Restoring Well 5 is an operational priority for the town’s water supply; the change order is small relative to the overall contract but required to correct a functional problem before full startup.
What’s next: The contractor will oversee a 10-day test run; staff will report any issues identified during the trial before final acceptance.
