Erath County Commissioners Court on March 9 approved a package of routine fiscal items and several procurement and contract actions, including payment of $572,459.22 in bills and a revised public‑safety software agreement with Motorola Solutions.
County auditors presented the invoice packet, totaling $572,459.22, which the court approved by voice vote after a motion by Commissioner Buck and a second from Commissioner Edwards. Commissioners also approved a set of net‑zero budget adjustments that moved small amounts between supplies, personnel services and capital contingency, including $50,000 from contingency to capital for an alarm monitoring system in the county jail.
The court authorized the use of $45,719 in insurance proceeds to cover replacement/leasing costs for a wrecked deputy Tahoe and approved a staff recommendation to buy out an Enterprise lease on a Ford F‑250 in Precinct 3 and begin a new lease for a replacement Chevrolet pickup. Commissioner Stevens moved the lease buyout and Commissioner Edwards seconded; the motion carried.
For fleet fuel management the court voted to switch from the current vendor to WEX, citing simpler, fuel‑only billing and better tracking of individual card usage. The change was approved after a motion by Commissioner Edwards and a second by Commissioner Ray.
The court awarded a paving contract for the Mountain Lakes inch‑and‑a‑half overlay to DFW Paving LLC for $213,840 plus a $1,500 mobilization fee; staff said the contractor had performed well on prior work in the area. Commissioners also reviewed road‑material solicitations and — noting a lack of responsive bidders and concerns about location‑specific trucking costs — voted not to award the current road‑material bids and to rebid with more site‑specific language.
Among larger technology purchases, the court approved an agreement with Motorola Solutions for a Flex shared CAD/dispatch system. Staff presented the original project cost ($917,740.51) and a revised contract amount of $719,446.38 after scope changes and partner contributions, a savings the county listed as $198,294.13. County staff said the jail will remain on the existing Tyler system to preserve court‑system integration.
The meeting also included approval of an interlocal agreement with Comanche County to share costs on a County Road 291 project, and a personnel correction to bring an investigator position’s pay to parity with other investigators ($64,200 adjusted to $67,400). The court approved all motions by voice votes with no roll‑call tallies announced.
The court concluded these items by directing staff to proceed with contract implementation, rebidding for road materials, and issuing purchase orders or lease paperwork as appropriate.
