ABC Unified names new school principals and honors CIF champions

At the June 4 meeting, ABC Unified trustees formally introduced two new high‑level principals and recognized student athletic achievements across the district.
Dr. Michael opened the presentations by introducing the new Nixon Academy principal, Mr. Hamamura. District remarks noted Mr. Hamamura's local roots—he grew up in Cerritos and attended ABC schools—and his 18‑year district record as a science and math teacher, dean of students, assistant principal and interim principal. "I'm so truly honored to be selected as the next principal for Nixon Academy," Mr. Hamamura said, outlining a vision focused on literacy and expanded multimedia and performing arts offerings.
Later the board welcomed Dr. Richard Moore as the new principal for Gar High School. Dr. Moore described more than 15 years in education, administrative roles, and a commitment to community engagement. "I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to serve," Dr. Moore said.
The board also recognized student accomplishments: Jasmine (regional golf champion) received a certificate, and the Gar High girls softball team was honored for winning the CIF championship. Coach Ray Sanchez and several assistant coaches addressed the board, describing the team's discipline, community fundraising for facilities and the role of district support. Board members praised coaches, students and parent volunteers.
Board members congratulated the new principals and pledged district support for transitions and school programs. The recognitions included certificates from an assembly office and remarks from a district representative. The board recessed briefly for photo opportunities and applause.
