Senators pay tribute to attorney Robert 'Bob' Fuku on his retirement

Senator Ole introduced the tribute, saying the Senate rose to commend and honor Fuku "for an exceptional career spanning nearly five decades." Colleagues praised his civility, professionalism and efforts to help lawmakers and members of the public understand complex legal and policy issues. Senators highlighted Fuku’s role in educating legislators through Pacific Law Institute seminars, his outreach to lay audiences to explain legislative processes, and his work on matters such as consumer rights and early efforts to enable deployment of automatic external defibrillators.
Senator Lee added personal recollections of Fuku's demeanor and effectiveness in explaining technical topics to staff and members, and noted examples of how reforms Fuku supported—such as enabling public access to lifesaving AEDs—had practical benefits for public safety.
The chair authorized the clerk to insert additional written remarks into the journal on behalf of members who wished to record tributes. Family members and guests were asked to stand and be recognized.
