La Verne — On Nov. 4 the City Council authorized the city manager to execute an S-letter agreement amending the memorandum of understanding with the La Verne City Employees Association to close certain non-emergency public facilities over the upcoming holiday season and approved the consent calendar, which included donations of surplus wood and decommissioned street signs to the La Verne Historical Society.
Human Resources analyst Lezette Rodriguez presented the proposed S-letter, saying it would formalize the council’s direction to close City Hall to the public on Dec. 25, Dec. 26, Dec. 30 and Dec. 31, 2024 and Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, 2025; the Police Department Records Division closures were proposed for Dec. 25–27, 2024 and Jan. 1–3, 2025. Rodriguez said online services "will also still be available" for residents to access utility accounts, permits and recreation signups while core emergency services continue.
City staff explained employees would use existing leave banks so the closures would not create new payroll costs. Public comment supported donating surplus wood and signs to the La Verne Historical Society to help fund Society activities; council members described plans to coordinate with local woodworkers and limit the number of trees considered for donation.
The consent calendar passed 5–0 with Council Member Crosby making the motion and Mayor Pro Tem Johnson seconding. The S-letter agreement amending the MOU was approved 5–0 as moved by Council Member Lao and seconded by Council Member Cas Vita.
The actions formalize temporary operational changes for the holiday period and authorize the transfers to the Historical Society; departments will post closure signage and maintain critical public services on an as-needed basis.
