City Manager Brian Cook told the council that Dial‑A‑Ride usage has rebounded and grown roughly 30% each year since the pandemic, delivering about 10,000 rides through mid‑July to seniors and residents with special needs. Cook said the service is funded through Metro Prop C funds, not the city’s general fund, and that the approved contract (item 7D) with Southland Transit will include additional vehicles as part of the provider’s obligations.
A council member moved and a second was made; the clerk called a roll and each present member voted yes. The council discussed future reviews with the Parks & Recreation Commission to evaluate whether service expansion is warranted given demand.
The extension is intended to maintain service capacity and allow staff and the provider to evaluate operational adjustments; staff said they will report back to the council and to the Parks & Recreation Commission if additional capacity is needed.
