City manager outlines sewer, water-main and park projects; new playground expected early 2025

Cook said the sewer replacement project on Las Tunas Drive requires short service interruptions when individual connections are switched over; residents will receive door‑to‑door notices and some sewer service may be interrupted for 24 hours during those connections. Traffic restrictions on Las Tunas are expected to continue for another one to two weeks as crews complete utilities work.
The city is also tracking a major water-main replacement on Rosemead Boulevard (north of Longden) that has caused lane restrictions. At Live Oak Park crews will remove the last playground next week as part of a scheduled replacement; Cook said equipment and shade structures are arriving and the new playground — featuring a rocket design referenced on the record — is planned for completion in early 2025.
Cook added that a planned roof replacement at City Hall was completed without requiring offsite modular offices after efficient project management, and that decorative LED streetlight installation and pole repainting are underway (staff described repainting at roughly $800 per pole versus pole replacement estimates of $7,500–$10,000).
