Relay for Life volunteers asked the City Council to support a return of the community fundraiser to Temple City and to consider sponsorship and fee waivers.
Miss Ling Wo, a longtime volunteer with the American Cancer Society, said organizers chose Temple City Community Center and Live Oak Park for a Sept. 28 event and asked the council to waive facility fees and consider formal co-sponsorship. She described the event’s history in Temple City, volunteer and youth participation, and additional programs the group runs to support survivors and public health.
City Manager Brian Cook and the mayor said the council could not act tonight because the request was not on the agenda and explained the proper next step: provide event details to staff so it can be placed on a future agenda for formal consideration. Mayor Chavez said he would check his calendar and hoped to attend if available.
Council members expressed appreciation for Relay for Life’s community work and indicated they would follow up with organizers about scheduling and logistics.
