Jeff Gordon, a Temple City resident, told the council he and neighbors have “seen an increase in burglary crime” on their street near Temple City High School, describing a recurring pattern of midweek smash-and-grab incidents and saying deputies had previously helped at one occurrence.
Mayor Chavez and other council members explained that public comment items cannot be discussed at length during the meeting but outlined ongoing forums for community-safety coordination. Chavez said staff and the county Sheriff meet monthly to review crime statistics and recommended the resident bring the matter to that forum or to the neighborhood-watch meeting where deputies regularly attend.
City Manager (name not specified) said staff had already had some contact with the neighborhood and offered to meet with residents to explore options and, if warranted, agendize follow-up items. Council Member Man thanked the resident for coming forward, said he had a burglary near his home about two years ago, and emphasized that public safety is a collaborative effort with law enforcement and neighbors.
Council members urged the resident and neighbors to attend the neighborhood-watch meeting and the Sheriff’s monthly briefing, and said the city would provide details about upcoming meeting dates and locations. The city noted available resources for seniors and vulnerable residents, including a Dial-a-Ride-like transportation option and the city’s cooling-center locations.
Next steps: staff will follow up with the resident and the Sheriff’s Office to gather additional details and determine whether to bring an item back to a future council meeting for policy or budget consideration.
