The Nags Head Board of Commissioners voted July 2 to submit a grant application seeking $400,000 from the North Carolina Public Beach and Coastal Waterfront Access Grant program to replace the Harrove Street bath house.
Deputy Town Manager Amy Miller said the grant application is required to have a public hearing and that the project is included in the town’s adopted Capital Improvement Plan: "This grant is for ... the replacement of the Harrove Street bath house. We are going to ask the tourism board for a grant and then we'll have some skin in the game also with some local funding," Miller said. Staff noted the grant is due at the end of the month and that design and CIP timing were coordinated across the 2027–2028 planning horizon.
A commissioner moved and seconded the resolution to submit the grant application; the board approved the motion by voice vote. No public comments were recorded on the application during the hearing.
If awarded, the grant would fund replacement of the waterfront bath house as described in the staff packet; staff said further refinements to the submitted application would be made before final submission.
