Residents thank commissioners for opposing Xcel route; litigation and PUC hearing set for next week

Don Gray asked for a legal update and for the status of a county resolution to nominate Highway 86 as a state scenic byway. County staff (Lance) said litigation remains active, the PUC hearing is scheduled for Thursday and Friday next week, and there will be a period for post‑hearing briefs with a decision expected by early June. "We're on a path where the PUC will be making a decision that affects the decisions already made by... Elbert County," counsel said, noting commissioners will be witnesses defending the county’s land‑use decisions.
The board said it would attempt to provide any additional updates on the scenic‑byway resolution when available and thanked the commenters for engagement.
No board action was taken during public comment.
