Issaquah — The City Council unanimously elected Council Member Martz as council president and Council Member Kelly Jang as deputy council president during a special meeting March 9.
Council Member Walsh nominated Martz for council president; no other nominations were offered and the council closed nominations before voting by voice. “I appreciate that this was not the role he intended to serve, but the fact that he is willing to do so and step in is very important,” Council Member Walsh said in support. The vote was unanimous.
Council Member Nichols nominated Kelly Jang for deputy council president; council members discussed her attention to detail and service to the city before a unanimous voice vote made her deputy. Jang said she would work to continue the priorities of the previous president and serve the council in the new role.
Both elections followed routine nomination and voice-vote procedures described in the meeting packet. The new leaders were congratulated and the council resumed regular business.
