The project cost discussed was roughly $24,000 to replace the net, install a pulley system and add a turf playing surface. Staff said the net alone would cost about $11,000.
Scott and other staff recommended funding the work from capital reserve (Fund 32) because the purchase matches capital-reserve usage, although they noted the board could fund it from fund balance if preferred. Board members agreed to move the item onto next week's agenda for a formal vote.
On a separate infrastructure matter, Josh Hogland described an approach from K Strategies to apply for federal grant funding (with involvement from Congressman Muser's office) to extend public water roughly 4.5 miles to the school. Staff said signing on as a grant participant would not obligate the district to make up funding if the grant proved insufficient; the application deadline is imminent (this Friday). Board members authorized staff to permit the district name to be included on the application and to follow up with a formal letter if needed.
Next steps: the batting-cage purchase will be formally listed on next week's agenda for a vote; staff will proceed with the grant sign-on steps and report back on response from K Strategies.
