Mayor Jane Houston read a proclamation honoring Fire Engineer Jonathan (Johnny) Hart and proclaimed March 5, 2026 as a day recognizing his 24 years of service with the San Marcos Fire Department.
The proclamation recounted Hart’s hire date (Oct. 15, 2001), his promotion to fire engineer on Oct. 23, 2007, and multiple certifications and commendations including Firefighter of the Year (2014), a life‑saving commendation for a 2015 incident, and citations for work on a major vehicle rollover and the 2015 Memorial Day flood. The proclamation described Hart as “the steady hand on the pump panel” and noted his plans for retirement.
Following the proclamation, Hart and others exchanged brief thanks and remarks. The proclamation asked the community and the San Marcos Fire Department to extend their appreciation for Hart’s service.
