The Tennessee POST Commission voted to take no action in two matters arising from contested ACADIS entries tied to the Jasper Police Department.
POST investigator Calvin Cree briefed commissioners on an investigation the commission had previously heard in February. Cree said interviews with former employees and municipal officials indicated that the entries in the ACADIS records were factual but reflected a dispute between department personnel and town government over how the termination of an officer was recorded. "There was no false information entered into ACADIS," the investigator told the commission, while noting the city government objected to the language used in the entry.
Commissioners questioned whether the entries alleged criminal conduct or instead reflected violations of city policy. Cree explained the entries documented a termination and policy violations and that the city did not pursue decertification through Jasper Police Department; internal department dynamics contributed to the dispute over the entry language.
Following questions, commissioners moved for "no action" on the matter involving Dwayne Dykes and then made a separate motion for no action in the matter involving Chief William Carl Mason; both motions were seconded and carried on the record.
The commission's action leaves local personnel and municipal processes as the primary avenue for further dispute resolution. The commission recorded its findings regarding record accuracy and declined to open further disciplinary proceedings at this informal hearing.
