Fountain Hills students report on national prevention summit and Capitol Hill tour

Representatives of the Fountain Hills "Above That" youth coalition — program manager Elizabeth Waters and students Henry Good and Payton Jensen — told the governing board they attended the CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) National Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., to share and gather strategies for youth substance-prevention efforts.
Waters explained the forum included workshops, training sessions and national leaders discussing prevention and recovery. The students described sessions on starting supportive conversations, mapping local “hot spots” for risky behavior and understanding how environment and role models shape choices. "We were honored to represent Fountain Hills and what we learned back to our community," Henry Good said.
The presentation included descriptions of their visits to the DEA Museum and a Capitol Hill tour arranged when the Capitol building was closed to the public. Meeting remarks noted a private tour guided by Congressman David Schwiker (transcript shows alternate spellings) and a letter of support for the White House visit from Mayor Gary Friedel. The delegation thanked the Fountain Hills Protect Our Youth Coalition and the town for supporting the trip.
Board members praised the students’ presentations and encouraged continued youth-led prevention work. The presentation was informational; there was no board action associated with this item.
