Council unanimously elects Sternquist as mayor; William Man named mayor pro tem

Temple Citycouncil members voted unanimously on March 18 to make Councilmember Sternquist the citys mayor and to appoint William Man as mayor pro tem during the councils annual reorganization.

A council member who asked not to be named for attribution in council minutes said they were removing themselves from consideration "because I do have a fairly busy schedule at the county and in particular after the fire my team is actually quite involved with some of the fire recovery work," and nominated Sternquist. The nomination was seconded and approved by roll call.

The move followed the clerks call for nominations and brief remarks from colleagues praising a council member named Vincent for his work supporting residents displaced by recent fires. Council members then nominated and approved William Man as mayor pro tem; the mayoral and mayor pro tem votes were unanimous.

The council also approved the consent calendar in a single motion and roll-call vote with no individual items pulled for discussion. After business concluded, the council recessed the meeting and moved ceremonial matters and celebrations to the Temple City Womens Club.

The meeting included ceremonial elements: an invocation led by Jerry Jambasian and a presentation by the Southland Young Marines. Destiny, an adult volunteer with the Young Marines, described the organization as a nonprofit for youth ages eight through completion of high school that emphasizes teamwork, leadership and community service.

No formal public comments on non-agenda items were made during the public-comment period. The council is expected to complete ceremonial items at the Womens Club following the recess.
