Senior Living Week set for Oct. 11; HomeShare program for 55+ relaunched, commissioners told

Madden Linton briefed the commission on Senior Living Week, an annual countywide outreach effort organized by Housing Bureau for Seniors and partners. The expo is scheduled for October 11 at the Morris Lawrence Center and will be a drop‑in event featuring about 50 vendors, free health screenings, a speaker session and two weeks of follow‑up workshops across Washtenaw County communities.
Madden said the event is free to attend and encouraged commissioners to visit vendor booths and share the event with community partners. The week includes open houses, workshops on topics ranging from HIV/AIDS to housing policy, free vaccinations and a pill dropbox at the expo.
Separately, commissioners announced the relaunch of a HomeShare (shared‑housing) program for adults 55 and older. The program matches homeowners with home seekers; participants must live in the county, meet age criteria and pass reference and background checks. Housing Alliance and other local partners are operating the program and staff will circulate flyers and outreach materials to help connect people in need of shared housing.
Commissioners asked for logistical details (speaker time, registration and refreshments) and encouraged colleagues to promote both the expo and HomeShare to groups and senior centers across the county.
