Select Board delays vote on revised mini-CIP to allow capital subcommittee review

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Susan Givens presented a revised mini-Capital Improvement Program (mini-CIP) allocation that reflects refreshed pricing, new facility assessments and a number of scope changes and new projects. Staff said last year’s CIP request had been scaled back while the administration was reorganizing; with new resources the department refined priorities for FY26 and beyond.
Board members expressed concern about the number and scale of changes — including revised pricing for Lincoln School bathrooms (originally estimated at roughly $30,000 per bathroom) and a reduction in scope for floor repairs at another school (RLE) — and several requested more time for detailed review. Carol Lin, chair of the Advisory Committee capital subcommittee, told the board the subcommittee would welcome the opportunity to take a deeper dive into the proposal.
After discussion, the Select Board agreed to calendar the item for Dec. 17 and asked the Advisory Committee capital subcommittee to produce a short analysis focused on financial changes, scope modifications and consistency with deferred-maintenance priorities so the board could decide whether to approve the reallocations.
