Bremer County supervisors voted unanimously to approve a one-year amendment to the county jail’s food service agreement with Summit Foods, accepting a 5% price increase effective March 1.
County staff described the renewal as an annual, routine contract and told the board the current inmate population averages roughly in the low‑to‑mid 50s; the per‑meal cost varies with population. A staff member who briefed the board said the county had shopped options but found Summit Foods generally comparable to competitors and that operating an in‑house kitchen would carry higher personnel and insurance costs.
The board also approved two personnel adjustments, authorizing Jacob for a role in secondary roads and confirming Selena in the sheriff’s department. Both personnel items were approved by voice vote.
The chair was authorized to sign the Summit Foods amendment on the board’s behalf. Staff noted the contract will affect both the remainder of the current fiscal year and the next fiscal year. The board took no additional amendments to the food contract at the meeting.
