Because grant approval is a long process, staff proposed the committee fund conduit work now and be reimbursed later when grants are received. Several members warned that loaning money up front then seeking reimbursement could invite an audit and asked staff to consult the town attorney and state contacts; staff agreed to return with legal and accounting guidance and formal pricing.
On classroom call-station devices (a hands-free push button to connect a classroom to the front office/paging system), staff explained the infrastructure conduits were installed during construction but the devices themselves were optional. Staff said the feature is recommended by emergency-management guidance and provides redundancy so a teacher can call the office without using phones. Committee members agreed administrators should weigh the tradeoffs and districtwide consistency; the committee voted to table the item and asked staff to return with a recommendation for both schools.
