Trustees praise water department leak detection; board to contact IDOT about signs on Route 30/31

Several trustees used the meeting's new-or-unfinished-business section to praise recent work by the village water department and to raise safety concerns about state-maintained signs and the status of Route 30 widening.
One trustee described a recent customer-service exchange in which a water-department staff member, Linda, reviewed household usage and told the resident, "You have a water leak." The resident said that prompted a check that identified a master-bath leak that was repaired, and another trustee described a similar call that led him to find his irrigation valve left open. "She said, 'You have a water leak.' So, I promptly went home and put some food coloring in my tank ... and I was able to remedy it and fix that because of Linda," a trustee said.
Director Wolf described the village's new monitoring tools, saying the installation of 'eye hydrants' and three district meter stations serving the Boulder Hill subdivision provide flow information that helps staff detect unusual flow changes and locate leaks faster. "They've proven to be a really very useful tool ... to be able to use," Director Wolf said; he said these systems have allowed the village to detect and repair leaks in hours rather than days.
Separately, trustees reported they had observed state road signs lying in medians along Route 30 and Route 31, sometimes in the roadway, and said they would contact the Illinois Department of Transportation for an explanation and to request removal or secure placement. Trustees noted that while design engineering for the Orchard/30 intersection is budgeted, additional widening beyond that is not yet funded.
The trustees did not take formal action on either the water program praise or the road-sign issue; they directed staff to contact IDOT and to follow up on the reported median signs.
The meeting then adjourned.
