The Boston City Council approved several measures during its March meeting, including two grant acceptances and multiple ceremonial resolutions.
The council voted to accept and expend a $1,519,383 grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Technology Center to fund HVAC improvements at an East Boston school (docket 0463). Councilor Collette asked colleagues to suspend the rules and pass the measure; the chair announced the docket had been passed by voice vote.
The council also accepted a $25,000 grant from the Obama Foundation to be administered by the Office of Black Male Advancement (docket 0464). Councilor Culpeper moved suspension of the rules and the measure was adopted after a roll-call vote, which the clerk recorded as 12 affirmative votes.
Beyond those grants, the council adopted a set of recognition resolutions and ceremonial items honoring public-works employees for storm response, recognizing International Women’s Day and the Boston Fleet Olympic medalists, and passing health-disparities and public-safety statements. Minutes from the Feb. 25 meeting were approved by voice vote.
Several substantive hearing orders and committee referrals were filed (see other items), and many of those were referred to the relevant committees for additional hearings and follow-up.
What happens next: The accepted grants will be processed through the city’s acceptance procedures and the referred hearing orders will be scheduled in committee for oversight and further testimony.
