Sloulin school project tracking about $4 million under budget; district says 600 students expected in August

Dr. Germundson of Williston District 7 said the Sloulin school build is tracking “to be under budget upwards of maybe $4 million,” and that the district plans to use the savings for deferred maintenance.
The update, given on site at Sloulin, outlined the pace of construction: crews are installing large full‑height glass and regular windows, the roof is on, and parking and site utilities including curbs and gutters are being put in. Germundson said workers will spread topsoil this fall and complete landscaping next spring.
Germundson described the site layout, saying a parent pick‑up and drop‑off loop has been built and bus parking will be separate to keep traffic flows efficient. He introduced others on site, including Chris Brurud, the district’s head of maintenance; Ryan Anderson with JE Dunn; Miss Susan Prady, the school’s principal; and Nick Lippert with JLG Architects.
On the interior, Germundson said metal stud walls are going in and drywall is being installed in other areas, while crews complete electrical conduit, plumbing, piping and ductwork — work he described as “the stuff that gets covered up at the end, but makes the building run.”
The district is organizing a furniture fair in October to preview classroom furnishings, he added. “Come August next year, 600 Sloulin Aviators are going to be walking in the door here,” Germundson said.
