Missouri Western State University leadership briefed the Board of Governors on capital projects, staffing and technology work preparing the campus for the fall term.
An administration representative said the Hearn Library main-floor renovation is budgeted at $2.5 million in bond proceeds and described a Potter Hall project of about $1.2 million with matching funds to update five spaces and add a classroom. The vice president for administration noted ongoing projects to install classroom deadlocks and other safety enhancements.
The report said the university onboarded 46 new hires between July and August and named a new assistant controller for student accounts joining from a Kansas City community college. The administration described a planning process for the void (student account hold) cycle that will emphasize payment-plan options and flexibility for students facing difficulties; officials said a fee-waiver timing policy could apply if accounts are settled by Oct. 1.
Tech Services reported upgrades to visual systems, plans to sunset legacy Gmail accounts and that Chris Gregory will start as the university's new chief information officer on Sept. 3 to lead network and security improvements; Jeremy Hunter will return to his prior role.
Board members asked clarifying questions about project schedules and cost responsibilities; no additional board appropriations or contract awards beyond the RFP approved earlier were recorded in the meeting transcript.
