The board heard updates on local workforce programming, partnerships with industry and fundraising progress.
Rebecca Labina, director of the Center for Workforce Development, told governors the center has generated about $85,000 in revenue this year and trained roughly 115 people, pointing to short courses (CompTIA AI Essentials), manufacturing-focused programs (CNC, certified production technician) and employer partnerships with firms including BI, Triumph Foods and Nicorsteel. Labina also introduced Shelby Wigington, the university’s new SBDC entrepreneur advisor, who has begun client outreach and is already working with new local businesses and a student entrepreneur.
Mark, speaking for university advancement and the MWSU Foundation, reported that gift receipts are expected to exceed projections and that the foundation committed a university record $1.2 million in donor-designated scholarships this year. Advancement leaders are planning cultivation events in Kansas City and Dallas to broaden the donor base and support strategic priorities.
Both reports were presented as part of the university’s broader strategy to diversify revenue and support enrollment, workforce development and student scholarships.
