Director Doll said the one‑time event is scheduled for Sept. 26 and will feature Major League Eating professionals; staff estimated professionals could eat roughly 60–70 cozy dogs in competition.
Councilors discussed co‑branding for more than 20 events tied to the centennial and related promotions including a St. Patrick’s Day parade and the Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon. The initiative will also include a new old‑fashioned ice cream social and partnerships with local organizations such as the Springfield Art Association.
The funding for the Cozy Dog contest and broader promotional activities was presented as part of the city’s events/calendar and tourism efforts; staff said they will provide ongoing updates for promotion and coordination with Visit Springfield.
