Council approves American Legion event; public comments urge swift open-space acquisition and preference for chip seal

On a procedural vote the council approved an American Legion special-event application for April 3–12, 2026 (staff recommended approval; the record states 'Motion carries. 6.'). Councilmembers confirmed that special-event permits are placed on the town calendar for public viewing.
The public also weighed in on paving projects later in the meeting: a resident asked expressly that the town prioritize chip seal over asphalt to retain the roads' rural character and to avoid encouraging higher speeds on formerly dirt roads. Council took the comment into account during the ADOT IGA discussion; staff said final surfacing choices will be determined during design and ADOT procurement.
