The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors appointed Michael Smith on March 3 to the McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee (MCMAC) to fill an unexpired term. The board considered 12 applicants who each made brief statements in person or by phone; applicants highlighted local engagement, expertise in planning, housing and business, and interest in community outreach.
Supervisor Madron and other board members praised the strong applicant pool and encouraged those not selected to remain engaged: several seats will be filled by election or by future appointment. Smith, a long‑time McKinleyville resident who said he has been active in local recreation and housing discussions, will serve the remainder of an approximately four‑year term.
The board noted the MCMAC continues to recruit resident participation and suggested other applicants pursue seats on related advisory bodies or the McKinleyville Community Services District when vacancies arise.
