Norristown honors youth and first responders; Officer Wy promoted to sergeant

At its March 3 meeting, the Norristown Municipal Council presented community awards, life‑saving citations and a promotion.
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful presented the Stewards for Tomorrow award to Grayson Anthony McCoy for collecting more than 800 pounds of litter through more than 30 cleanups and for volunteering on environmental education projects. Grayson, a third‑grader, briefly thanked his mother during the recognition.
Deputy Chief Rich Alcart and other presenters honored civilians and members of the Norristown Police Department and Plymouth Community Ambulance who helped revive a person who collapsed at a council meeting on Dec. 2, 2025. Presenters named Lauren Banto and several officers and EMTs and described coordinated CPR and advanced life support that restored the patient’s pulse and breathing. “The result of their action saved a life,” a presenter said while awarding citations.
The council also promoted Corporal Matthew Wy to sergeant. Judge Hakee Jones administered the oath of office, and Wy affirmed the oath to support and defend the constitutions and the municipal charter. The meeting included applause and photographs to mark the recognitions.
What happens next: awardees and the promoted officer will be recognized in municipal communications and staff will follow up on certificates and photographs.
