The committee recommended contacting Waste Management to explore vendor logistics and whether the firm could provide trucks and certified handling for eligible wastes.
Members advised holding the hazardous‑waste event on a separate day from the paper‑shredding event because the materials and handling requirements differ, and they urged staff to clarify eligible items (for example: paints, turpentine, fertilizers, pesticides—not all materials are accepted). Committee members also noted the fire department’s interest in such events because removing accumulated flammable household materials reduces fire risk in private garages.
Staff agreed to seek council blessing at the council meeting the next night and to have staff (Jeremy Allen or other staff) reach out to Waste Management and the fire chief to scope a pilot. No formal vote was taken; the committee asked staff to report back with logistics and suggested vendor options.
