Council approves Station 11 annex site plan with staff discretion on window upgrades, returns on roll-up door design

Council reviewed and approved a site‑plan modification to repurpose the former Station 11 building as a village annex to house building department functions, police uses and records storage.

Jay Hutch, the community-development director, presented the architectural and landscape plans, including a proposed standing‑seam metal roof, stucco finish and a refreshed landscaping pallet. Planning & Zoning recommended approval by a 3–2 vote and asked staff to consider the rec-center blue, but recommended a muted gray for the roll-up doors to blend with the residential context.

Council members debated aesthetics and budget: several members favored a blue hue to tie the annex to nearby municipal buildings, while others preferred a toned‑down color to blend into the neighborhood. The council also discussed adding mullion windows, replacing the roll-up doors with more residential-style panels, and the placement of three sabal palms in front of the doors.

Council approved the site-plan modification with the following direction: staff may substitute approved window styles if cost‑neutral, staff will return with a final roll‑up door approach for Council review, and landscaping as proposed is acceptable. Several council members asked that any more costly design upgrades be brought back for explicit Council approval. The exterior work is expected to proceed under existing building‑fund budgets; roll‑up door design may be finalized later.
