The Town Council unanimously authorized up to $56,950 to purchase and install replacement components for the Southwest Ranches Equestrian Park playground as part of a planned four-year replacement program.
Staff explained the action is a piggyback agreement using Clay County contract pricing to replace structural steel components — decks, stairs and a bridge — that staff identified as worn and potentially unsafe. “We are replacing decks, stairs, a bridge — components that are really worn over time that, if we don't replace them, could represent a safety concern,” Parks and Recreation and Forestry Director December Lano told the Council.
The resolution authorizes the mayor, town administrator and town attorney to execute documents necessary to effectuate the purchase and installation, with the Council noting the longer-term plan includes additional work in years two through four to replace slides and cosmetic elements previously vandalized. There was no public comment; the roll-call vote recorded all present members voting to approve the measure.
Staff said this is the first-year expenditure of a multiyear capital replacement plan included in the FY25 budget.
