Council chooses rec‑center blue for annex doors, defers shutter costs to general fund

The Village of Tequesta council on Feb. 12 approved a final color and material scheme for the new annex maintenance building, opting to match the recreation center's blue door color and roof tone to maintain consistency between neighboring municipal structures.
Jay H, the community development director, presented an array of color and shutter options generated for council review. Council members said they preferred the blue door with gray shutters option shown in the packet and emphasized resident feedback: “All but one chose… the light/medium blue with the gray shutters,” Council member Brandon said. Several members said they were reluctant to spend extra funds on Bahama shutters unless operational concerns and long‑term maintenance were resolved.
The council moved and seconded a motion to approve the slide displayed at the meeting as the final design for the maintenance building; discussion clarified that any optional Bahama shutters would be an add‑on paid from the general fund and would require hurricane‑rated products if chosen. Staff noted estimated shutter ranges of approximately $5,000–$15,000 depending on product quality.
Council members also asked staff to confirm how shutters would be installed relative to roll‑up doors and to ensure the appearance and functionality would not obstruct future use. The motion passed on a voice vote.
