Firefighters present $82,500 in donations from Quest Chili Cookoff

The Village of Tequesta council meeting opened with the presentation of charitable checks from the 14th annual Quest Chili Cookoff. Captain McGovern, leading the ceremony with members of the fire department, announced that the event raised $82,500 in profit and that each of five recipient charities would receive $16,500.
"We're super proud. We're here to donate checks to five amazing charities: Operation 300, Warriors Renewal Coalition, Southeast Florida Honor Flight, Wounded Veterans Relief Fund, and Quest Friends of Public Safety," said Captain McGovern, who described volunteer support and logistical challenges the event overcame this year.
Christine Brady, chair of Southeast Florida Honor Flight, thanked the village and cookoff organizers; the honor-flight organization said proceeds help fly World War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans to Washington, D.C., for a day of recognition.
Captain McGovern added that Quest Friends of Public Safety will use its share to repair a ramp and maintain the American Legion building, and that volunteers and donated materials will support the work. Organizers also said the event relied on about 145 volunteers and donations of land and parking from community partners.
The council recessed briefly to allow a photo and the presentation of the ceremonial checks before continuing with the business agenda. The cookoff organizers said they plan to hold the event again in November 2026 and hope to increase fundraising toward a long-term goal.
The council congratulated organizers and volunteers before moving on to the regular agenda.
